I used to ride my motocross bike around the back of our yard when finished early. One morning the boss was late so I thought I would go for a burn but was out of 2 stroke, chainsaw mix was different, so I put the bike away. I took it out later on to find one of the old Oaks had fallen the LENGTH of the track I had been riding the day before.

Did my crosser save my life by refusing to start? Arthur C. Clark.

This is a sweet chestnut that came down last year. Two old ladies who walk under it every day had just passed and down it came. The day was still and dry! Its close to 5' at dbh!!!

Doing the PTI in Bicton, we are all under this tree surveying away, suddenly hear a crack, everyone looks around grinning, wouldn,t it be hilarious if a tree fell on a group of PTI students, anyway we go back to the classroom and 10 mins later this huge oak limb detaches itself and hurtles to the ground about 10 yards away from where we were. I can picture the headlines.

Tree climbing comp in Hamilton a couple of years ago. Heard and then saw a 25' lead slip through the crown. It was dead for awhile.

Children and people where around but luckily no one was hit.

If anyone is driving down the A23 towards Brighton when you drop down the hill after Handcross look on the left hand side.

There is a mature Oak with both major boughs split away lying on either side of the tree, it is a rare sight, one day i'll pull into the Staplefield side road and walk around to get the photo, unless someone on here is close by and can do it.

I saw a few plantation pine blown over while working on the site. We probably shouldn't have been there, given the strength of the wind. One one occasion, I felled one pine, which exposed the next one down wind, and over she went - quite slowly, as it happened.

wasn't there when it happened but i'd gone along to investigate the small upper limb which i'd been told needed clearing, only to find the lower one on the ground as well!... oh well, more firewood!:001_tongue:

Ah so that's the tree you wanted me to climb...:scared1: Hope what's left of the tree is sound enough!
