I was talking to a Toyota commercial salesman yesterday, we got onto the conversation of Hi-Lux trucks and towing.

Well it turns out they are plated to tow 2800kg and not the 2250 in the brochure, well I never knew that I told him!, its about time the changed they stupid brochures I said..........:001_rolleyes:

if you read the BFF link you will see is doesn’t back up the salesman, also do you believe someone who is a salesman :001_rolleyes:

I have a letter from TMC UK saying that towing over 2250kg could void any warranty which is why the brochure has a stated towing weight of 2250kg & a GTW of 5190kg, the only way you can tow 2800kg and to stay under the 5190kg GTW is by NOT putting any load on the Hilux its self so keeping it under 2390kg VW (which the Hilux Double and Extra Cab are homologated in the UK to do BUT TMC do NOT recognise these “local“ test hence the brochure & warranty situation), after all the Hilux has its own GVW of 2940kg.

its one thing to say as a salesman yes you can tow 2800kg however by omitting making you aware of the provisos in that anything you tow above 2250kg MUST be subtracted from the Hilux payload to stay within the 5190kg GTW or that if your driveline goes bang TMC may refuse to repair under warranty because you didn’t adhere to their towing/GTW recommendations shows he is only telling you what you want to hear rather than the full facts which would sway most people if they knew that.

only a problem if it's within warranty and they follow you round with a set of scales!

Id be more interested in the 'local test' that seems to be so flippantly disregarded. after all, if it's plated and tested in this country to tow 2.8, it's plated and tested to tow 2.8
