Landmark Films has been commissioned by BBC1 to make a documentary about leylandii hedges. Love them or loathe them most people have a view about these trees. We would love to know your experiences with leylandii. Have you had to trim monster hedges? Have you come across disputing neighbours? Get in touch with any stories you may have. We would love to hear from you. Any contact is by no means putting you under any obligation to appear in a programme. My email is [email protected] or you can reach me on 01865 297220.

You've got balls Tony! I'm impressed, what were the circumstances? Stand alone trees or part of a mixed group?

Have I cut big leylandii? Yes, I think you will struggle to find a tree surgeon who hasn't.

Have I seen neighbourly rows over them? Yes, regularly.

Have I made loads of money off them? Yes:thumbup:

One interesting leylandii fact for you: because leylandii is an intergeneric hybrid it is sterile and can not re-produce by seed. Thank god.:001_smile:

I sometimes get people claiming thet their "leylandii" are setting seed, however these are always either Thuja's or Lawson's cypresses.

Good luck with your project.

Hi Lisa, if the Arboricultural Association, an industry body for tree surgeons/arborists, can assist in anyway with your production please let me know.

We operate a national accreditation scheme for tree surgery contractors demonstrating good business practice, customer care and of course safe and proficient tree / hedge work to national standards and can put people in touch with local 'approved' contractors.

The scheme is not mandatory and does not imply that those who are not approved are not reputable, competent and safe, it is simply an opportunity for those who so wish to achieve independent, 3rd party accreditation.

Regards, and good luck (you'll find a wealth of good information and assistance here at 'Arbtalk!')

Paul

I've TPO'd Leyland Cypress in the past.

Correct me if Im wrong please Tony but if Lennys grow individually in a tree conservation area, once they are over 75mm Dbh then they are coverd as tree's, but if planted as a hedge in the same area then they are exempt from tree protection as are other species of hedging.

Am I having a blonde moment or is this the correct? :001_rolleyes:
