Hi all

Got a Dunsley Highlander 5 multifuel stove fitted last November, been on more or less ever since apart for a few times we let it out to clean above baffle plate etc, just wondering how long the fire bricks normally last as ours are beginning to wear/crumble, any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.:001_smile:

The ones in our Aga Little Wenlock 5kw have lasted for 3 hard winter seasons burning 24 7 as the only heat source is a static van. Still look like new. It has only ever had wood in it.

they should last a year or two unless like me you like to ram oversize pieces in til the fire is full from grate to baffle plate with ends and edges of the logs scraping the sides all under pressure from the stove door which wont quite close:001_smile:

We've been in our house three years now, never replaced the fireblocks in the stove, use it as our primary heat source and consistently ram it full of timber. One block is cracked I think.

Have got a hunter 8 also mine only lasted three years and thats only because I kept repairing them with fire cement they started breaking up after about nine months. To replace them I bought square sheets of firebrick and cut my own out it worked out about a third of the cost of hunter's own bricks

Never thought of that I did burn some willow that had been in the pile for only a few months put it on because the tree had been down for a while before I cut it.

Any make of fire cement will repair the bricks ok just keep filling in the cracks.
