haha, are you sure though are you really really sure????, we have had quite a few suggestions on here.

 

With the orange hue so prominent alder is the certainty, as for ash, well, that guess was so far off that its just laughable, ash goes pink as I said earlier.

 

Im sure its alder, and well done to those that said so in the first place, good call on the first photo.

thank you for your diagnosis, my question now is, is it any good for firwood & as it burns so well wet will it harm my chimmney if i do so??

nothing wrong with burning wet wood, though i suspect thats what caused my chimney fire last week, lovely 8ft flames roaring out of the pot, nicely contrasting against the night sky, i think it'll not need a sweep this year now:thumbup:

No problem burning wet wood or any wood but if you burn fresh wet alder it will fill your chimmney with tar and sap if you dont have it swept first fire next winter and it will all catch and ull have one big fire between the stove and roof brook alder should really be left for 2 years to get sap out then it makes top firewood .

Im stuck for what to say! i was refering to the risk of chimney fire due to burning unseasoned wood, sorry you need to resort to Sarcasm oh well:blushing:
