[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EU5a99uhP8]YouTube - Snowy Windfirming[/ame]

Windfirming is thinning or topping trees along the edge of logging cut-blocks to reduce blow-down after it has been logged. A grappling hook (claw) is used to pendulum between close trees. These trees are second growth Douglas-firs about 150 feet tall.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DduoDsk1bnk]YouTube - Forty-three Minute Fir[/ame]

Kind of an experiment, a small fir removal (43 minutes of uncut footage sped up) filmed with a helmet cam. About 3.3x actual speed. Probably a little boring and a little nausea-inducing.

done a windfirming job, 8000 trees over 2 years, we were just topping crop for pheasant rearing pens, the remaining trees around were then felled over a number of years. dont think they got much bigger than 80ft at best and were close enough most of the time to sway across and tie on to. JPBeaver had the record of 66 in a day but urs truly did him on the last day with 72.

was amazing with 15feet off the top how the crop stood still compared to the surronding trees.

nice vid mate
