1st proper wage was £37.50 a week, and it seemed to go a long way, but then a pint of IPA was 65p, and a packet of B&H was something like 80p for 20. A gallon of fuel was not measured in litres, cant remember the price tho. I think we probably worked harder then, as jobs were hard to come by, unemployment was in the range of 3million. of course this was before the government doctored the figures.

No mobile phones, phone calls were something like 10p a minute from a call box, and I think about 5p a minute from home, now we get free minutes. No internet, computers were a rare phenomenon in those days.

No chavs back in those days, just hippy types, skinheads, punks. A modified car was a Mk2 Escort with a spoiler and a sunstrip with "Debbie 4 Dave" on in, if you could afford it it might have resembled the Mexico kit. Best bikes around had to be the Kwacker Z900, proper bikes then, fast, crap brakes, and crappier handling.

By ek Lad, it was 1980 I started as an apprentice mechanic at a Honda dealership in Halifax.

 

£18 a week and I had to give mi mother a tenner a week. You lot don't know when your on a good thing.

 

I thought i was loaded, but then again, we never had money when I was a lad.

 

Mi mother used to go t'butchers and ask for t,roll ends for t'dog. We used to then get em in sandwiches and t'bones for t'dog used to get boiled up to make t'stew.

I've got to agree Lee. In the "OLD" days i had less money, could not borrow anything, and was far happier. Simple things in life are often the best!

 

Back to the thread. You do have to saviour the moments. I'm in my thirties and have previously never thought about the speed life goes by, until my son arrived. It's frighting how fast he's growing up:scared1:
