Remember spalted beech is highly carcinogenic.

Really? i did not know that it's not on my list of dangerous woods to mill. Is that the fungi spores in it that cause the problems or just how fine the dust come out?

Get it on the fire mate, it is amazing to burn. I warped the back plate on ours last month lol. It burns better than coal:thumbup:

Given how much of it was dead it would be fantastic burning. Just seems a waste to burn 138dbh log 4m long.

I had a spalted Beech trunk milled into inch planks, left it outside with gaps under cover for a year and it still warped quite a lot. It was not suitable for cutting in half again to use for flooring. So i made a superb book case and small kitchen work surface out of it. Still have some planks that i actually pulled out today, plan is to make a log store next to my fire place.

The spalted beech when milled looks stunning.

But does also burn very well!

I have 3x 3.6m lengths of wind blown beech which I can see some spalting in the ends, they are 60-70cm diameter on average. Would 2" be the the best thickness to plank into for air drying?
