If you only do roadside work then buy a truck mount, preferably an Aerial on a 7.5 tonne chassis. Otherwise you are better off hiring the right machine for the job each time, otherwise you will struggle trying to do everything with one machine that isnt suitable for all your work.

Wouldnt hire out a machine without an operator, if you have someone that will run the machine all the time and go out on hire with it that could work. Bear in mind though that you will be competing against companies that only hire platforms and are very good at it, and unless you have experience of running a plant hire company you will be at a disadvantage.

I bought the RQG 18 and to be honest, it only just paid for itself. If it came to to buying another I wouldn't, I'd hire when the jobs came up.

 

The larger (over 15m) tracked machines are too complex to hire out.

 

RQG 18 18m with 35ft outreach cracking for dismantles but any mewp is aukward to use for thinning or reductions.

Yep, that's some beast, I'm not sure that it would work to well on the small streets of Bath, but hey, I'm sure it has its uses.........

 

As for pissing on my fire, I feel thousands of pounds richer having not spent it on another expensive piece of gear. That's waht this forum's for.

Nifty lift 17 metre works well here but i can see its limitations of use when i go down to perth
