Ryetec 80 splitter. Any good?

Hi all, I am in the market for a petrol engined log splitter..just wondering if these splitters are any good?

Its really just a side line for me as most of my income is from tree surgery..so for this reason i did not want to spend to much money.

I welcome your thoughts.

Arb waste, generally, is the worst stuff for any splitter to cope with so you'll want something wiht plenty of grunt.

 

The 6.5hp engine on the 80 isn't going to make it the quickest but if only for a sideline then maybe that's not too much of an issue.

 

If it was me though, I'd save up a bit longer for something with more tonnage, a bigger engine and built in the EU (I'm fairly sure the 80 isn't) as you'll only end up wishing you had eventually.

I quite like the spec of some of the wallenstein splitters..but are they worth the extra money compared to the rytec?

I've never actually seen one of the Wallensteins in the flesh so unfortunately can't comment on that, and also, as yet don't know of anyone using one.

 

What sort of Budget do you have in mind?

 

I'd be looking at something from one of the mainstream italian producers (so middle of the road cost wise) and something in the Heavy Domestic/Semi pro range as a minimum - domestic would be false economy.

To be honest I'm being a bit of a tight arse...but don't really want to go over 2k. But would rather spend half that!!

Just sold my Massey 565 & browns splitter..and would like to by a petrol engine machine of equal performance.

£2k should get you something around 10-11 tonnes and of a "table" type (like the 80) but more substantial and with a bigger engine. I'd say after the browns, the 80 would feel like a step down TBH.

hey mate try riko,,theres a link on the side here,,I bought the AR11ton machine,,and whilst the ram isnt the fastest,,splits almost anything Ive thrown at it,,,and should set you back £1500 ish,,,,all ours is arb waste...

I was going to suggest riko too, i think their 14tonn two speed splitter looks the nuts for the price. website says £1450 but thats probably for the hydraulic tractor mounted version.

 

For a 16 ton horizontal splitter for up to 1mt logs a 9hp Subaru engine with a solid axle and towing eye Riko quoted me £2500 + Vat.

 

If you tell them your budget and requirements they will build you the splitter to most suit you. I was very impressed with their help, advice and time spent with me and my enquiries.
