Looking for a good way of making small amounts of kindling every now and again. Anybody tried making some sort of contraption to go on a splitter. Any ideas appreciated.Thanks.

I just use my splitter...

I use tips of pine trees, probably 4 - 5 inch wide, i can hold it in my hand and make 3 or 4 cuts with the splitter one way then 3 or 4 the other way.

Not sure how well a small multi blade would work for me, interested to know if it would work.

I use the same system as I do for splitting the logs, a tyre.

Instead of splitting the round in a tyre into 3 or 4 logs I just keep splitting until the wood get's thinner and thinner and turns into kindling. At some stage in this process you will need to add in more wood to keep the kindling upright but by doing this you get a tyre full of kindling in no time and even just a tyre full goes quite a long way if it's just personal use.

The tyre splitting 'system' is superb isnt it! i have an 18 inch 235 tyre attached to a large piece of trunk. As the axe hits the tyre it is helped back in the air by the tyre. Ill give it a go for kindling...

I have found that with a 225 width tyre the axe actually gets bounced back up so it not only take the shock away from your wrists it converts the excess energy so you dont needs as much effort for the next stroke...
