I suppose this is the best place for this but mods, if you want to move it please feel free,

I have a friend, Jonathan wheeler who dismantled a saw mill before christmas initially for his own use at home in suffolk he's an engineer so knows what he's at, but he's had a re think and wants a portable mill, so its up for grabs, its a stenner VB band rack , will take a 3-4 inch wide band and has 20 foot tables, power feed etc. a serious mill, pretty much an industrial machine, he also has the band saw doctoring kit, swage, welder etc.. all complete except motor, but easily adapted for pto, via Vee belts. delivery could be arranged.

Jonathan's number is

Milling wood is fantastic for those who feel that the life of a tree is unjustified if the best parts of the trunk and limbs are not used to make something beautiful.

I am fortunate in having a milling operation down the road from me. Two brothers have milled an entire elm floor for my sitting room, oak beams for my house and oak planks for fencing and a chicken shed. We also have a cherry bed, sycamore doors and a yew staircase all made from wood that I have cut down.

I have milled quite a lot with an alaskan mill but I found it slow and quite wasteful as one uses a lot of fuel and oil and you lose a fair amount of timber with a chain cut as opposed to a bandsaw blade.

The mill for sale sounds like the perfect thing for me as I have lots of timber in the yard, however I am so bad at engineering and impractical - I would need someone to hold my hand during its operation!!:001_smile:

I saw something similar a long time ago, I don't know whether it's the same, but the one I saw was a pit mill. Where the bottom wheel was in a pit underneath ??

Yep bottom wheel is in a pit underneath. got a simmilar set up to that picture. Stenner 41 with the moving bed. Its a beast of a saw big 3 phase motor can cut a log 36" thick just missin the upper fly wheel. Some 20' of steel goes into making one band! Can do a 17" wide board 18' long on ours.

I had one of these a few years back, I bought it from a collage for £500 and removed it myself.

It sat in a barn for a few years, but I decided I would never get round to setting it up, so sold it for £1200.

Wish I'd kept it really.
