Although I agree that a good groundsperson is worth their weight in gold I don't agree with the comment that groundsmans wages should reach the same level as a climber. You hit the nail on the head by saying "....just don't fancy getting in the harness...", in my opinion the proggression from groundwork to aerial work entitles you to a bit more brass as you are taking more responsibility and risk. Now I don't want anyone thinking I am poo pooing groundworkers as I think that working the ground can be a lot of hard work, and to do it right, to get that special rappor with the climber is a very skillful job but I do think the climber, especially a competant and experienced climber deserves that little bit more at the end of the day.

ok after reading all this im feeling the urge to become a good groundy for someone in the future, so if i can have a list of all the jobs that a groundy does so i can become a good groundy if you could highlight all the important ones please

See Master Blaster's: All I expect of a groundie is that they memorize this. It covers just about everything. :001_smile:

Where i work we are all qualified climbers so the climbing gets shared about abit,it also means that every one has an arial rescue ticket.I Think it would be differcult to become a good groundie with no climbing experience as they should always be thinking a step a head of the climbers needs so things work more smoothly rather than the guy in the tree having to shout down for everything. Im sure you would all agree that a experienced groundie is worth there weight in gold expecially when your just about to snatch the top out of a big pine.
