Does anyone out there know whether or not the use of the stein extendable outreach pole would be allowed in a climber competition---or would it be ruled to be an unfair advantage and therefore disallowed? It would help to hear from someone who has actually organized a competition before.

its probably no problem to use one. however the only thing that might crop up is "whats the point?"

in a general work climb, you only have a few minutes to get around and down. all the stations have a task that wont require one and will just take time to set it up.

I could say it may be ok in the masters?

Not sure about competition climbing, but for everyday work I find a small extendable pole makes getting aroujnd the tree a hell of a lot easier. I've been using one for years. I't just attaches to my harness and stays there all day. Sometimes it can catch on branches, but I find there are more advantages than disadvantages

You could use one..not to ring the bells though.

But no point, as in a 'work climb' you get tied in to main line at the top and race down. You could use it in the rescue if it was needed. Only real place may be in the masters, but same thing, may not be needed...it would just be another thing to snag. I know Beddes has climbed in a masters with it. And he's a master.
