Mate, if you have any idea who may have taken it then go after it, i am always worried that my chipper and machinery will be taken, Im ill off work at the mo and wont be back for a while and having my chipper just sitting there makes it hard to sleep at night. Im near Chelmsford too. Hope you get it back and catch the b*stards too!!

A mate of mine had a chipper stolen last year he knew were it was so we went to the local ***** camp. Sure enough it was sitting there at the back of the site hitched to a van . We called the police and they turned up took one look and said they wouldn't go in to get it and told us if we went in to get it back and caused trouble they would have to arrest us for tress passing as the site was private land some one tell me how that works ?

i had a twin axle trailer, loaded to the hilt with ash logs stolen last tuesday from a compound near cardiff.

 

it was chained to a steel shipping container, boxed in by containers, skips and a lorry and the scum suckers brought a hiab in and lifted it (complete with logs) over the containers. spoke to the police and was told........"dont think you'll see that again, do you want a reference number for the insurance?"

 

someone tell me why we pay tax etc?????

 

our yard was hit twice on 2 consecutive monday nights, we rent out an area of our yard to two other tree gangs, and both of them had a chipper pinched, a greenmech cm220 and a jensen 540a (that was mint with around 200 hours on it and stored in a shipping container) and the first monday the police didnt show up, and the second monday it took them 6 hours to show up

Dereliction of duty.In other words too bottleless to persue an investigation.I`d have reported it to the chief constable.

if you had photos of all your kit with any identifing marks you would have proof it belonged to you,i now its a pain in the ass but but it mite work.the police would have some thing to look for,

Surprised some people don't lock the chipper to their van. Easy take if you don't really isn't it. I also know someone that had a chipper stolen from the back of their van and there was someone sat in the van!! It takes second to steal but most chippers have those small hitch locks don't they and they only take seconds to put on!! As for theft from lock ups etc i had my garage done over a few years ago. Bent the door out on my van pushed it up my drive and then got in the garage. The police turned up after about half an hour (at 5 in the morning) And what can i say about the police? After two weeks they called and said it will be listed as unsolved!!

... with all the gates with locks, chains with locks (around equipment) and lockups with lockable stores inside that I have to go in and out of daily, for me it's around 20/30 minutes per day (plus extra time for thawing locks out with the current weather). It's laughable but if that's what it takes to keep my stuff as secure as poss (and fully eligible for insurance purposes) , I guess it's worth it.

 

To the OP, sorry to hear about your chipper getting nicked. We had ours taken about 6-7 weeks ago and are waiting in the insurance company to say how much we'll get. If you're lucky you might get it back!

 

After much reading on trackers and such, I've decided that locking/securing the chipper in multiple ways seems the best option, as the police and insurance company guy both said trackers are not that great once the item is under any kind of cover.

 

who insures all your gear darren? my yard has a estate worker and a copper with 2 dogs next door,and they still wont touch it,,,? nice undesireables still had the cheek to try and get in,,,,want to see there faces when alarm goes off and two dogs come hurling over next door fence,,,,when we set it off accidentaly,,,I have to jump on roof of van mself,,,,lol:lol:

we put a big chain through the wheel and around the leaf springs whenever were working in back gardens,,,the only pain is remembering its there when you drive off,,,(gravely pro-chip have holes in wheel hub)
