Hydraulic chainsaw

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for somewhere to hire a hydraulic chainsaw from. Does anyone know where you can hire a hydraulic chainsaw from in the north west area? It's to use on some works next to a gas pipe. The client requested a diesel chainsaw - I'm thinking a hydraulic may be the way forward. All help greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Sarah

One of them model aircraft engines ( big one ) they use on strimmers in fuel depots might do the trick. You use a glow plug, and a cord to start it and just let it run on tickover all day. Most have an engine that will sing all the way upto 17,000 RPM and the bigger ones are quite powerful.

If you get real stuck, give a dive engineering company a ring. They may be able to help.

I assume you need one for the spark restrictions working near the pipe. Its slightly amusing to a point that there are restrictions implimented in such a way that a petrol engine should not be used, but has anyone said anything about reducing the spark from the chain?

Sorry if that was a slight derail, but hope you get sorted.

Also, it is possible to fit spark arrestors to chainsaws. Some even have them fitted new.

I was lucky enough to be involved in that other job and oddly enough it’s not the sparks they are worried about. Well I am sure they are but as far as engines goes the main concern seems to be that the engine will ingest the escaping gas and begin to run on that rather than its intended fuel.

Diesel engines are worse for running-on than petrol when the atmosphere is laden with flammable gas, oilfield exploration/refinery trucks that are diesel have cut-off valves on the air intakes so you can shut them down ;)
