Thanks for the Small Scale Mechanised Extraction doc. Some interesting thoughts. To tie this to another thread, winching is done using a skidding cone, but despite this being an equipment review, no further mention is made about the cone itself.

 

Anyway, did a bit of routing around, and for anyone interested, the report can be found here:

Just used the Cyclone 2000 to extract some timber from our forest.

Best bit of kit ive come across, worked all day without as much of hicup,Thats 2 tons of pulling power where others in the same price range will only pull a ton.

supawinch do a capstan petrol winch. cheaper than the honda. pulls the the same. use dyneema rope so alot easier than haulin a cable about and does not get kinked. cost 575+vat

I normally use a Zollern winch it is c/saw powerd and hauls in via a capstan

its the big orange one straped in the tree the other is a porta winch another capstan powerd by a honda engine both exelent winches
