I also read about htis a few hours ago...having since partaken of some evening sustinance...I am somewhat tired and emotional.

The occaisional short sighted selfish stupidity of humans never ceases to amaze me...and yes I am not pretending that I have not done much (MUCH) worse in my time...I am part of the human club.

I just hope that this incredibly resiliant little tree (for not the first time in its existance) is able to regenerate itself again from the stump...reiterative regrowth is something we should all marvel at.

I hope there are some Glastonbury Arbs on Arbtalk who might keep us informed about what happens to the tree.

Read about this in the paper this morning.

Probably some students "protesting" :sneaky2:

Bit unfair to tar all students with that brush. Regardless of whether they are a student or not they are still nasty people.

Looks like a perfect opportunity to cut it off at ground level and to show the feeble minded locals that its not 2000 years old and that they should get a grip on reality & fact rather than peddle the gibberish they do. :laugh1:

Makes me wonder what sort of world my little boy will inherit when a small number of petty minded bigots decide they what to remove that little bit of magic that still remains in this world:thumbdown::thumbdown:

Not to mention nobodys saying it's 2000 years old. In 'fact' Records suggest it was felled and replanted from a cutting during the civil war which puts it a few hundred years old.

Nothing surprises in a world that would deface the Cenotaph and a statue of Winston Churchill. The Glastonbury thorn is of no religious significance to me but its mysteriousness spp? intrigues. Long live the unknown.

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
