Inonotus dryadeus, thats the exception to the rule.

 

The tree must have been waining, good pics Gollum I have yet to capture an inonotus failure myself.

 

Inonotus dryadeus, interesting, will take more closeup pics shortly.

I'm thinking of testing the tensile strength of the decayed timber and comparing it to the good timber are you interested.

That's a big ol oak to fall in what looks quite sheltered to you have a more over all shot?

How far up the butt do you think the rot goes? Anything worth milling?

I will be looking for something to mill to get me out of the house over Christmas.

Will let you know, bare in mined milling infected timber may be a waste of time depending on the end use.
