THink long and hard before buying a Unimog. It has to beabsolutely right for your work or it will cost you dearly.

I've had a U1200 for four years with a 10" pto chipper in the back and a flared side chip box. It carries loads more than a transit or other, 4WD, and I put a big tool box on the front bumper.

I love it but it's uncomfortable, slow if you travel big distances, very heavy (clients lawns, driveways, soft fields, mine is 10T fully loaded), parts are veery expensive or double if you get Merc parts.

Don't get a cheap one thinking it will be ok, you're buying someone elses junk. £18K for a u1200, forget it.

My biggest regret is not getting a long wheel base U1600 or bigger. I would then put the chipper on the front so I could tow a small or big trailer.

Also because of the purchase and running costs I don't see how it could be a second vehicle. Mine needs to work all day, five days a week.

So, make sure you get the right one for you.
