bare root trees??

how long will small blackthorn bare root last in a sack? were due to plant today but we have a load of snow on the ground.

any thoughts on the best way to keep them would be good.

i figured to keep the warmish with the roots damp??

I'd just try and keep them outside under cover away from old jack frosts harm but never let the roots dry out .

As long as the grounds not frozen solid, dig a shallow trench and heal em in, they will survive almost indefinately, just remember to dig em up again other wise you will have the mother of a bundle planted tree?

Keep them frost free in a plastic bag with the roots in the bag with a bit of moisture around them( throw some damp compost in to keep them moist)

Don't let them get warm or they'll rot/mould-up.

They'll keep for weeks if you keep them moist and frost free. Any longer then "heel them in"

As above - I had some hawthorn and blackthorn left over one year that were in the sacks for at least three weeks afetr the job finished - they now make up a hedge in the garden which is over 7ft tall in places and they only been in 4 years or so.

cheers for posts. was just a bit worried as a client bought them on sat ready for me to plant today and we now have loads of snow and i cant get there again till this sat, he has them so i cant heal them in but sounds like they should be fine. thanks again.
