also worth mentioning that the fungus and its habitat (the tree) are protected under section 8 of the wildlife act 1984.

 

I am fascinated by the "insoculating trunk" idicating the dysfunctional cambium where the fungi is fruiting, i would love to see the tree even without the fruit body present.
