Advice on Traffic Management

Folks,

I've been asked to take this down by the 2 owners of the property (semi detached) as they want to appreciate the views from their bedroom windows and in case of failure due to weather conditions.

Can anyone advise me whether/who I need to notify about putting out traffic warning signs/cones etc all of which I have. The road is a B road and isn't hugely busy, the work will be done at the weekend when there is even less traffic.

Thanks.

At the very least i would cone off carriageway directly under the tree, giving yourself room to work and probably get away with a chap with a stop/go board if it is as quiet as you say. I cant stress enought that you do need to make some sort of effort with the traffic management as I myself cut corners once and the first car round the corner was the cheif highways officer. He was less than impressed with my minimal efforts and proceeded to throw the book at me and my mate.

So long as the traffic in both direction has the correct signs to warn them of work ahead, and that somebody RESPONSIBLE is on the ground in hiviz to control the traffic with what ever means you should have all bases covered.

Make sure that all of your paper work is signed and on display before you start.

Is there anything wrong with the tree that is obviouse and could become a hazard in adverse weather conditions?

I hate it when people ring me to take down healthy mature trees because they want better veiws, less leaves to clean up ect, they dont even think of the value of a mature tree like that.

Acouple of circumstances where ive been to quote on the removal of some large trees and i haven't been able to persuade them to keep it i have asked the council to consider a TPO and have been served.

Thanks all for your responses. My plan was to cone off work area and put all necessary signage out both directions and have 2 good guys on the ground, one of which to be in charge of traffic.

When you say paperwork I take it you mean RA and method statement etc?

Thanks

In answer to your actual question of who to inform, and not how to do it, the HA would love you to tell them what you are up to, and in the event of an incident you might be prosecuted for not informing them.

They might also impose restrictions such as work not to be carried out on weekends, specifically because if there is an incident they are not fully manned to deal with it.

I would just get on with it if I were you though, like you say its a B road, whats the worst that can happen?
