The above is a pretty bold statement, especially if a 'standard' log is seasoned...

Cant knock the guy on that statement he even has the maths on his web site to prove it. Just assumes the "standard" log which you guys sell are pi$$ing wet through.

He advertises the crates as 500kg/2m3

 

The fact that he then is selling by weight & volume would mean his stacked boxes MUST be 2m3 internally and must be 500kg.

 

However he dose have “E & OE” at the base of each page as a means to limit liabilities over clerical errors.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't seem to say where the wood is from - I would hazard a guess that the neatly packed kiln dried logs in crates hail from mainland Europe... which explains the price after all that shipping and transport.

In regards to buying from mainland europe the total cost including transport to UK comes in at around Gbp 85-95 per cubic metre. He still has a good profit margin if he is shifting the stuff.

thats it he only makes a good profit "if he can shift the stuff" and at those prices imo, i think its too expensive and does the firewood industry as a whole no good at all, as its like burning £5 notes! and who can afford that - were still in a recession.

 

promotion of firewood must be done to give firewood an element of being cost effective not for a select few who can afford luxury kiln dried imports. - we must promote the industry to compete or better oil, gas and electric.

Here here And as you said before Baron once your crate is in a shed or garage the moisture content will creep back up to 14-17% anyway.

I would suggest the price is at the lower end for retailing of kiln dried.

So many on this forum are hell bent on slating anyone who so much as mentions kiln dried. Merchants selling kiln dried are the same as any other merchants, firewood merchants. They have chosen to sell a product that has been dried in a different fashion to seasoned log merchants, surely if they can do that succesfully then good luck to them.

You miss the initial point in that the text of the Burnswood site clearly implies that non kiln-dried firewood is not seasoned and hence there is general agreement here that that is blatent rubbish and is misleading.
