ya, i stopped clipping the end of my flipline onto my harness, when i dismantled a maple the other week, cut a branch out and i became a human rigging line. scared me a little to say the least...

So what's the recommendation here? Clip the lanyard/flipline back into the central attachment on the harness so that the climber is no longer part of the loop should the piece rip down?

No, I think whats being referred to is the tail of the lanyard being clipped back to the harness.
