New Fire

Can anyone reassure me? I've just had a clearview vision 500 (8kw) installed and I'm really pleased with the job they've done. I've lit it for the first time tonight and following advice from the installer not gone for a big burn in order to ease it in. As yet there doesn't seem to be a lot of heat kicking out at all and its been going a few hours tonight. Does it get better the more its used?

I've had the flue lined and insulated with vermiculite so it draws incredibly quick. The fire is surrounded by fire boards and set on a granite hearth. I'm really impressed with how long each log burns for.

I'm hoping that it will heat the ground floor of my terraced house which is open-plan but not big

Install a stove thermo on the front above the doors if concerned about correct operation. The fumes given off are dangerous as posted elsewhere so loads of fresh air inside the house during the first couple of burns. Paint will not cure/harden unless at least 600C on Clearviews.

Make sure both levers pulled out until going well then left lever full in and run on the right one.

Hope that helps.

Lancs we have exactly the same model its sounds daft but close the metal vent on the front fully then open it about one and a half turns. Pull the rod below right out to start the fire and close slowly once the fire is going (we tend to leave the door adjar during cold start just to create the draw.

Once the fires is going close the door as you ease in the front lever it should start burning fairly slower too slow and you smoke up the glass. Now this is where I find it gets wierd but my opinion is that the reduction in air flow means each foot of air passing through the fire is getting hotter and as a result the fire gets hotter.

Having got a bollocking from Mrs Arbjobs for heaping it up and having everything open full throttle I was recommended to read the instructions (I am a man and therefore following years of carefull evolution never do this!!) (unless told) they pretty much say the same thing. We are so toasty got the curtains up now so can also sit around in my thong : )

Like others have said, the paint needs to cure slowly and will be like soft varnish until its been well heated up a few times. Don't let anything touch it at this stage otherwise you'll have the marks forever.

Is the stove setting tucked into a hearth - we had to pull ours out from the fireplace to get the heat into the room. It now sits about 10" our from the fireplace and makes all the difference. Before that it was pretty poor - its the same model as yours 500 vision.
