We added 2 supports to trees we had been surveying for a few years and had signs of slow collapse when under load from fruit, so we put them in to be free standing most the time but able to support the trees when laden with fruit.

What species have you used for the props Ian?

We took out a dead laburnum in the garden so used that. :001_smile:

 

No we didnt touch them as the seemed to be holding up fine until fruiting. I did say that when the trees sit on the props during winder when they have no leaves then we would be looking at shortening the end weight.

Its nice when you get to do something out of the norm. I think the last one i did was to a weeping ash in a churchyard 8 years ago.
