I had a gorgeous slice of oak which I counted back to c1750 before giving up. My ex has now nailed it to a post for a bird table:sad:

About 5' diameter. Came from a dead oak on the estate where I lived.

nice wee job from this morning. local landscapers got me in to strip out this old syc pollard so they could fell it for firewood. had to rig all the back stuff over the barn as it was a plastic skylight right underneath. i left the stumps as i passed a sneaky comment to the owner saying how it was a shame to fully remove it and it could be left and managed as a pollard. started 10.30 finish 12, on the sofa for 3 after a bit of beer shopping:thumbup1: oh and of to an ancient tree hunt in the morning with the NT. good times:biggrin:

Went to the Natural History Museum in London t'other day. They have a huge slice of a 1,400 yr old giant redwood, that was felled in 1890.....

beech reduction in the morning, this poor old girl has been butchered beyond belief many years ago, lost a huge main limb and been swamped in tar for over 10 years, but she is still going strong. I took about 15 feet off the top, and reduced the road side as she was very one sided, doesnt look awesome from one angle but i think it will ballance out over time, but i think it looks quite good from the seaward side.
