It was mate but someone had tied some rope round the trunk many years ago and was becoming very dangerous. The cavity in the last pic was from ground level to about 20 foot up. Was a very nice climb though.

slippy slippy i bet, great smell off them:001_smile:

these pics are from a very small job i did taking down a sninny woodland ash leaning over a power line, it was pretty sketchy and didnt really fancy climbing it, so i climbed the one next to it and traversed accross to knock the top out. i had to set 2 lines onto 2 other trees to stop it springing back after id taken the top out. at one point i dont mind admitting i didnt think i was going to be able to do it but i couldnt face my brother(my groundy) ripping the piss out of me for ever for chickening out. anyway the customer was stoked and ive got a load of work off the back of it:001_cool:

heres a method i use for tying a rope off when setting a pull line. its sometimes hard to isolate one limb to send up a running bowline, specially on pines for example. what i do is send up the throwline into the crown and out the other end....then i send my pull line up and tie the end off at the base of the tree aboved the felling cut

The Aussie guy s use this technique to fell palms
