A few from yesterday: Andrew dealing with a couple of big hangers in a beech over a road and a stone dead (armillaria) spruce I took down. And finally a nice old open grown oak I saw today while pricing, the paper is a4 for scale.

heres a chestnut that i worked on last week. Not sure what you fellow arbs will think of it, not too sure about the finished outcome The tree had been battered (heavily topped years ago) the spec was to give it a 4m crown lift and a "good" thin.

Think you could have been a lot more sympathetic with the lower canopy.

I think your right looking at the pics on the computer. Was'nt sure about posting it as i was'nt to happy with the end result . Customer seemed happy she was just concerned about letting more light into the garden. She deffo got that . Just seemed to struggle with it as there was so much re-gen growth due to the tree being "topped"

Think it's very good that you've had the dilemma of posting or not Danny, as that shows you care about where you're at with your skills and your final product.

 

 

Hopefully you may get some decent feedback from the many here who really know about thinning.

Danny mate, Watch the way Bill thins a tree, IMO hes the best ive ever worked with at thins, He gets right to the very tips of the canopy, He did a syc today that looked amazing after.

 

The one you've put up, Id say a little less off the bottom and a little more off the top

maybe trim the bushes down slightly below the tree to give the appearance of more 'gap'? sometimes works..

I agree with others, and rightly so, too much lifting there, the same result could be achieved by just leaving a single live branch on every other main stem.

 

carb distribution is overlooked, but very important.

 

good amount written by shigo on this aspect.

 

chestnuts are oppresive though and know the clients desires all too well.
