Pegs are a total pain in the arse...except when they arnt. The trick is knowing when you can usefully make life easier by leaving it and removing it once its served its' purpose....

at least one person gets it!

pegs allow for a secondary accses line should someone need to come and get you. in a hurry

spikes stop the need to think about your climbing, and lead to laziness, good technique and work positioning make spikes redundant in all but 1% of the operations.

over reliance on spikes, bad, and not good for your legs/feet.

but i have no arch in my feet, I have spade foot so i am less inclined to find them comfortable.

Wow just caught up on this thread and I thought I was the only on here that does'nt like spikes. I dont even own a pair, if I find I really need em I borrow a pair off a mate down the road which is very rare, infact the last time I borrowed em was last Jan and then they stayed in the bag.

it depends what you are working on, i mostly do conifer hedges and small garden trees, so if i dont need em i dont use them, BUT on takedowns i love them, diy branches i call them, especially the new ones, i have the geckos after taking hucks advice on upgrading last year, they are so comfy, no more sore shins and slippy gaffs, they have some a long way.:001_smile:each to their own, but i can see johny's point and he has been climbing for 20 plus years so he isnt a daft rooky , just daft:biggrin:
