On pegs, a friend of mine (a good climber and arborist) left a couple of pegs on a take down, he took a bit of a slip, not a biggie. As he spun into the trunk he ht the peg in the middle of his back, punching the vertebrae out of alignment. He then had three ops to correct the problem. He lost movement in his arms, meaning he could no longer raise his arms above shoulder height. He then had to have further corrective surgery. He now climbs again, but its taken a long long time, with many issues on route. Yes climbing has its risks, but minimising those risks by removing pegs can only be a good thing.

I think the key were looking for is good work positioning

But surely spike are what give you that very thing!!

 

With spikes you have a foot hold WHERE EVER you need one, not making do with a peg where there happens to be one.
