to be honest, it looks that dead from the picture, the roots might be so shot it might be feasable to just stick it on a truck and pull it straight out without getting involved in any cutting.

personally i like the wife idea

:confused1: Why can't I see the pic Steve????

No I appreciate that guys. I know I sound pretty fippant but I have the upmost respect for my saw. I'm a teacher and we're doing a self build and this is a tree on a bit of the land we have. I've used a chainsaw on and off for the last 15 years and I'm under NO illusions as to what they can do to your leg or somewhere else. I think the tree is pretty dead so I'll have a look at it and see what I think. I have a couple of guys giving me quotes for taking down some trees so I'll have a chat with them about it. Just fancied the challenge as it's not a big tree but I know what you're all saying and the last thing you want is another amateur doing himself in 'cause he tried something that was beyond him.

Cheers

Yeah, reckon it's a 2 minute job for someone who know's what they're doing. Better that than me do myself in. you know what it's like though, you just want to learn and be able to do more things but I guess it's a case of drawing the line somewhere.

Hang ups can be pretty dangerous and unpredictable. There is a way of cutting, but its an advanced technique and as the tree is dead, might not work safely anyway.

The tree can easily swing forward and hit you when cut. There isnt a lot of control available.Towing it out with a 4by is an option.

Its really best left to someone who knows what they are doing.
