Why go for a 7.5 tonner? They carry bugger all, why not go for a short wheel base 10 or 13 tonner which can carry a decent load yet are not that much more to run or buy and have more or less the same paperwork requirements. Okay, crewcabs are few and far but what is the fixation with small load carriers?

i always thought it was over 15 ton on 4 wheels that had the £650 tax. i fancy getting a 21ton 3 axle with a lifting rear axle as its ment to be £200 tax altho i may be wrong:001_smile:

£650 tax per year is about £1.60 per day.

If that saves you getting fined for over weight or reduces the trips then I think that £1.60 is a worthwhile investment, don't you?

A pack fags is about £6 I believe, are they a worthwhile daily investment?

I could downplate my 18 tonner to 15 tonne to save £450 per year, but it would be sheer lunacy. That extra 3 tonnes of payload gets used nearly every time the truck goes out.

Daf every time if you can find them, but how much do you intend to spend. New or 2nd hand.

I am going to buy second hand and as new as possible. I have to buy a 56 plate or newer as our yard is not far from the low emission zone .

I except that i have got to spend a good £15k plus.

I have looked at DAF And they seem to be good motors.
