Calling all LDV owners need towar help

Evenin all fellow LDV owners, got a bit of a problem with mine, im struggling to get a towbar for it for some reason..... i purchased one that looks like this :

 

ldv convoy tow bar on eBay (end time 29-Oct-10 16:14:00 BST)

 

but it doesn't go anywhere near the back, no room or holes to line up with or anything....

 

the other day i had a sneaky peak at someone elses ldv tipper, and there's bolted with 3 bolts to the back on the inside.... mine doesn't have any holes at the back nor any re-enforcement for towbar etc...... also noticed my back number plate/light bar/board seems to be different to bolt on

 

mine is a lwb with a 12 foot back on...... boss suggested it may have bee a luton then converted to a tipper after...... there are a few unused wires to the rear.

 

struggling and any help appreciated. can get pics in the morning if necessary

here you go mate not the best of pics as i have a crap phone and no light under my ldv lol, mine was converted to a tipper, was done though when i bought it, you wont have any holes as it did not come with the tow bar, you will have to drill them your self, as for the wires i cant help till 2moz as its dark and i cant see much under there, hope this helps to get it on for now,

right...... it should fit then do you know if there is any re-enforcing in there at all?? same towbar brackets etc as i have here..... that thin plate at the back seems to make it foul but nothing the tin snips won't handle....

 

i'll have another go at the weekend then, just hope the metal strong enough etc

don't think there is anything re enforcing, it just bolts straight on to the chassis so that's strong enough, yer cant beat a good old angle grinder good luck

It will need some re enforcing or you risk crushing the chassis rail with the bolt head.

 

Make a spreader plate for the outside of the chassis rail. Copy the hole centres from the item you bought.

 

If you can’t do that, at least use substantial washers.

also if its a box section chassis its worth making a sleeve that goes through the chassis so as to stop the bolts crushing it when tightened

I did start typing a how too guide for that but lost the will to live.

 

In a nutshell get some tube that’s a snug fit on the bolt, get a drill or hole saw a little bigger than the tube and drill through from one side. Weld it in place for the best result.
