does anyone here add 2 stroke to their diesel? it's been suggested elsewhere that it is very beneficial to the engine to do this,,

 

i'll see what you guys think before posting the info i have

I've read about the benefits too, but I think you'd need to be very brave to try it in any modern diesel engine.

 

Read a lot of good things about Miller's Diesel Power Sport 4, but it doesnt appear on their website any more.

It was useful to add lubricity when sulphur content was reduced, but since the inclusion of ~5% bio-diesel in fuel stocks is now not necessary and was only then relay required for DERV as red still had much higher sulphur/ash content then DERV

 

Now red is moving to the same sulphur content as DERV and includes ~5% bio-diesel in fuel stocks it is not needed.

 

If you wish to add oil you are better with adding ATF periodically as it acts as an injector cleaner but its not a good idea to put it in DERV due to the HMRC not liking it as it dyes the fuel red (though it doesn’t have a chemical marker as per red diesel)

 

The biggest problem was there is 3 types of red diesel of which the lest common one (ultra low sulphur city gas oil) is the only one that conforms to BS EN590 which is the same as DERV from the garage pumps with a guaranteed cetane number >51, your normal red diesel only has a guaranteed cetane number >46 & marine gas oil a guaranteed cetane number >35

 

Higher cetane numbers = a shorter delay between the start of injection and the start of combustion, hence when something has its injector pump set up for DERV and you put red in it it smokes more and has a little less power then it would if you set the injector pump timing for red, going the other way there is little or no effect I.e. putting DERV in something set for red diesel.

I only use it when I fill my truck up with jet A1, but then I rerley put a whole tank in at once, I just add a few litres to a half tank of DERV.

Just fill up with regular shell it has all the addative packs you need. And it wont kill your nice new common rail engine. With ijection pressures of 30,000 psi leave it alone.

Yes, I'm sure it is. I know a few people who've had diesel pump failures costing them a lot of money. Mybe the extra lubrication would have helped...???
