Does swearing ease the pain?

When the grazed knuckles and crushed finger nails hit I usually do tend to swear a little. My wife insists swearing gains nothing and offends those who are close by. Am I wasting my breath or does an outburst really ease the pain? The only alternative I can think of is to cry, out loud of course. :confused1:

Apparently there is some truth that swearing eases the severity of pain:

Why Swearing Helps Ease Pain: Benefits of Curse Words - TIME

Swearing might be counter productive though if you get kicked in the shins by your wife for constantly offending people :001_huh:

Brilliant piece of research by British Researchers. I knew all along that my taxes were being well spent.

No. Not unless you fall for the lie that it really does. Personally I hate it, simply can't see how bad words (yes they're just that - bad) better anyone at all. I empathise that excruciating pain calls for some letting off of steam but by finding the worst language possible you are really looking for the biggest distraction possible. Tell you what, a hot woman walking by when you hurt yourself would ease the pain and shut you up!!!
