Dying conifer hedge, any ideas?

I belive the aphids will be gone by now but I know i should be looking for cast aphid skins and black fungal growth that grows on the sugary aphid pee

could be red spider mite get an a4 sheet of paper and run your hand down the hedge catching what falls if there are any mites there you will see them.

Looks like aphid damage to me. They can be very difficult to spot. As mentioned previously look for sooty mould which forms on the honeydew.

Spider mite by the looks of things or maybe aphid. The patterning doesn't look like if some one cut too hard, more bug like.

Or burning the chiminea thingy too close to the hedge!!

Look closely for infestation of scale insect too. These little blighters dont seem to move, look for masses of little "scales" on the new growth. They suck the sap until it dies back. Their faeces look like a sooty deposit. If it is these, treat with a spray such as Provado Ultimate Bug Killer, its systemic and effective.

Or it could just be too closely trimmed, but do some detective work if you can.

if you get a chance to look at the wood and see if you notice any small holes in it.iv had a small hedge start to die and iv started to cut some out thats when i noticed the holes.may be this will help

Look closely and you can see two linear lines. Nature rarely does straight lines. Hedge timmer exhaust directed straight into the hedge does.It's so closely trimmed the excess heat cannot escape and causes die back just like this. Also when it is trimmed the trimmer is a lot slower covering the face of the hedge when it is as dense as this adding to the overheating of the hedge.
