More ring barking in Sandbanks

Public education and banging home the many benefits of trees? I don't know :001_huh: Damage to publically owned trees is CRIMINAL DAMAGE and as such is a police matter, and in theory so is damage to trees covered by Planning constraints. But I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting anywhere if I went down to my local police station to report any damage.

From my experience, the best way to make people appreciate the value of trees is to express it in a way that has some meaning to them: in ££££s. Although CAVAT was never designed for this purpose, it is quite useful when you're trying to to give a more tangible expression of a tree's worth than saying about amenity and habitat.

They have this problem around Sydney Harbour in Oz it is amplified because the rest of the country is sooooo devoid of anything interesting (so I was told!).

When this happens they put a big sign up blocking the view created with a message on it saying along the lines of you are not getting away with this.

The result is a much worse view than what was there originally. No worries!

Not so much with the ring barking around here but plenty of people with drills and a large supply of roundup or grazon. Had a guy caught with a funnel in a bore hole in a large Pine that was blocking his view. He'd just gone back to get the roundup when the next door neighbour snapped him with her camera on his way back to the tree. Unfortunately nothing could be proved. It seems to be a regualr occurence in these Parts.
