winch and cable unless used for lifting or lowering does not need checking for loler but would still need checking under puwer

pantin and ascenders are a grey area imo as they should not really be used to support person all should be backed up or used to assist ascent but we check ours

gadgets and strops and metal strops mallions and slings could be added to list.

In all fairness everything you may have in your climbing bag or may use for climbing or all lowering kit should be included

I'd say ascenders should be in, as they can be used in life support (even if they are backed up).

Axeman, how does that 9mm rope work out? I was under the impression that it was recommended that a hitch on a single leg should have been on at least 10mm cord.

Never tried it yet Jamie,

Just bought that cord a couple of days. It was the only friction cord in from a local out door shop.

Got some Roblon 10mm here that I just purchased online. You reckon that could be better.

I'm re-writing this after my toddler just deleted the first one, arrrrrgh! Anyway good thread, I'm looking at getting my loler testing done soon aswell.Possibly by the same guy as you as we are from the same county. I've been using 9mm cord from penrose outdoors for ages both on my vt and on prussik loops, in fact I had one on for 2 years before I was told it needed replacing by the inspector (a bit lazy I know). As for use with the blakes, I can't comment, never used that system-seems like too many knots and biners to me!

By the way do you know anyone with a chipper for sale in the westcountry?

pastytastic!!!

Are pantins and ascenders any different from pulleys in that they are climbing aids. A pulley used as a slack tender is no more to support a person than a pantin?

Personally I will always test ascenders, and any pulley. They could be used for life support. It is a grey area admitedly, but use of kit may change with change of hands within a company or personal use as climbing methods change or develop.

A pantin is an aid, it is not to be used for life support- however if submitted why not.

I found out the hard way m8. I kept going on to my oldest to do this and do that but at a later date it all blew back in my face. Now I let the others make their own minds up on how they want to enter the real world.

A little advice on the way shouldnt harm and should keep them on the right track though :motz:

I was very similar when I left school, rebelling i think they call it, but about two years of been a little **** and I ended up working in the family saw mill just as father said.:scared:
