There is a restricted licence but it’s the load that’s restricted not the operating area

The licence you need is UK restricted as opposed to UK national or international. The restriction is that you can only carry your own goods which is fine for tree work. The other licences allow you to carry goods for other people.

so it still comes with all the red tape then ?

Ohh yes…………….

The purpose of the licence is to ensure that you are a fit and proper person to operate goods vehicles in a condition that will not needlessly endanger other road users.

You will need to demonstrate that you have the funds to maintain the vehicle(s) in a pukka condition and that you are going to operate it/them from suitable premises. (not annoying the neighbours by parking a 44 toner on the drive)

Are you planning to uprate or replace?

Re Tacho and Operators license

Is there a way round these is you work within a certain distance of base and only do a very low milage

ie I mainly work within 5 miles of home and only do about 2500 miles per year.

If Woodpicker uprated his Iveco from 3.5 to 5.5 could he get round these issues by working close to home
