Thanks for the advise guys; have really found the whole situation very depressing. Pouring with rain and my hands are tied so I can't even go and split timber. With orders coming in thick and fast now this is terrible timing.

I'm going to go down the modded silenced exhaust route for starters. Like the straw bale idea; was thinking of the soundproofing boards only earlier...

Re the barrel of water; do you mean the exhaust existed IN the water i.e bubbling away?!

yes he had the end of his modded exhaust bubbling in the water.. fitted with some sort of metal flexy pipe

good luck either way:001_smile:

Bales around the edge of the building will help especially if you can steer the noise in a direction that causes less problems. Get a sheet of this FRFFB6 non-flammable soundproofing for noisy machinery and build a box around the engine - not too tight for obvious reasons!

sorry dont want to diss you, would it wise to enclose the engine in a box?

the engine needs alot of cool air. 1 for the carb and 2 to cool the engine..

wouldnt be me doing that... might cause more probs than hes already got...

Daft as it sounds, what I used to do at shows with my genny is stand a board infront of it and it reflects a lot of the noise away from you.

If you make a like a three sided booth with a roof, even out of bales with the open side in the direction you want the sound to go you will knock the noise down an amazing amount

No problem - a 'box' was the wrong word. Deano's "Booth" is what I should have said.
