blackberry crumble.. mmm

been picking this week, so far had blackberry crumble, raspberry and cherry crumble, swapped some woodchip for a load of apples and plums, the woman made the plums into plum jam. swapped more chip for spuds, carrots etc. found a haul of hazelnuts on a hazel we coppiced.. oh and a couple of pigeon eggs in an omlette:thumbup:

Not many apples !! , the apple trees around here are absolutely loaded.

 

The bees suffered here during the cold snowy winter, and we dont think the trees were pollonated very well. (thats the only reason we can think of anyway) We have a small orchard opposite our house, plus some trees in the garden. And i would say theres about 75% less apples than previous years, and most apples that are on the trees are poor form.

It may be that if the trees have had a number of good years that it has not the energy to produce a profusion of flowers this year, and with the general decline in bee numbers. However it might be something else completey different

have made about 20 jars of plum jam so far, have 2 bags of apples waiting for me to get the blackberries in,, then it'll be about 50 jars of blackberry/ apple and cinnamon jam, went down very well last year..

 

toms are going well for the chutney too...
