Wood burner

I’m thinking of getting a wood burner before winter sets in (for obvious reasons).

Has anyone any advice on good/bad/ugly. It will just be a standard burner (no boiler – she will be sitting in front of it:jumping38:). Have also been told to get chimney fully lined, is it worth it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The problem I was told about is the tar deposits eat the brickwork, then the tarry deposits work their way out, showing thru the chimney breast. I was told to def install a liner to prevent this. Also be aware that if you have an old property, the heat of the liner can reach temperatures sufficient to set alight to old timbers. According to the Fire Service, this is often over-looked, and you will require additional heat proofing at any points where this could cause a problem.

Sup to do with the draw and to stop bleeding through the brickwork:confused:

Only ever had one, years ago. I got really bad bleeding through because of no liner, and that was on the inside through the wallpaper:cussing:

Suppose it was in the late 80`s when i burned lots of dead elm. Was very tarry stuff and seemed to be especially bad when i shut the stove down overnight, seemed to be better when the stove was breathing a bit.:smokin:

Our stovax woodburner is great, we have a backboiler on ours and run all the heating on it as well. I would definatly advise getting your chimney lined, and really watch out for tar build ups in the flue. it builds up then falls down into the neck of the stove on windy days, which happened to us when the stove was lit. All the tar set on fire and the stove neck started glowing bright red. we managed to put it out, but since then have been extra vigilant about keeping the flue clear of tar.
