Done this job a couple of weeks ago. The tree almost split in two on a sunny very calm day, approximately early afternoon. There were quite a few people about and some on the pathway quite close when tree split, but luckily no one was injured. Broken limb landed over two pedestrian pathways and destroyed a fair bit of very heavy duty, ornate fencing. Called out while on holiday to clear up damaged, then returned to section rest of tree 2 days later.

I suppose the issue around leaving a Tree such as this, as standing dead wood habitat, is that someone will have to audit that decision by installing that mono in to a regular cycle of inspection, especially as it's right next to a foot path.

Would have been great for bats though, right next to a water source.

Efficient piece of removal Robert :001_smile:

Er...What; like it was "clearly" monitored before the failure!:sneaky2:

IMO, if a mono is left at a sensible height it will be substantially less of a hazard than a growing tree....just my opinion mind. But we need as an industry, to be "selling" this to the authorities and tree managers alike>

but the other outlook is that if you fell the tree then you substantially lesss of a hazard than leaving a mono, personally i can see why the LA chose to remover the tree , im sure there were plenty of shap jaged edges from there the union failed - the coupled with children playing in close proximity to a standing hazard would lead me to the option of felling and maybe grimd the stupm out and re-plant with Quercus rubra or Acer rubrum , personally i love to see some nice autum collour in parks .
