Keep it low key,if they dont know it's there they cant nick it,also make it harder and more time consuming with different layers of security.

If you keep your kit at home,a pea shingle drive & sharp mutt are an asset.

Drain the fuel out & stuff them under your bed.

For saws and other small bits a jobox or some sort of safebox with a covered lock that can't be got at with a bolt cutters works well for us. Means they have to grind it or cut it with a torch. We lost the keys once and had to force one open. Was a nightmare. Took ages and made a load of noise. Could rig up the gas mains to pump gas into your lock up when they trigger a silent alarm. Then when they light the torch..... BOOM!!

Just make sure your policy covers fire damage.

Break down machines into parts and place them in different areas. A bit time consuming but worth it for stuff not used daily or if you are going on holiday.

Also somebody once told me "thieves only steal shiney things" so leave them filthy!

Apologies for my obnoxious post, I was rather drunk, but I still think good insurance is the solution.

Not really preventative though, is it? :001_tongue: Unless you can convince the company that you pay your premium in exchange for one of their phone clerks living in your lock-up with a rifle 24/7.

Your right, I didnt even read the thread title, just started reading posts :blushing:, in which case the best preventative measure is.............. to live in your shipping container with an AK. :sneaky2:

You're probably right, maybe not to such an extreme though. In all seriousness, it would probably be a good idea (if you have the space) to set aside a small room/cupboard in your own house and take all of your smaller kit like chainsaws and such there every night, get one of those bathroom vents fitted in that room, and only get your larger kit like chippers and grinders insured.

At least that way if you catch one of them in your house and beat 10 bells out of him with a frying pan, I imagine it would be easier to prosecute, since they can be posing a direct threat to your family.

Failing that, just put 30 rakes on the floor around your lock-up every night..
