I love this article from the Huddersfield examiner, you need to read it right through. Will hit home to a lot of people. But he speaks his mind and he tells it how it is IMO:001_smile:

A speed camera only catches you within a short section of road...usually placed right at the end of a higher limit.

 

Sneaky and good riddance. It's the job of the police to uphold the law and they can take many things into consideration if they catch you. 4am doing 40 mph in a 30 limit and you'll end up with a ticking off. Plus you never know where a cop is but the camera stays still.

As far as I know it is a cash cow for the government as the funds from the fines go to the treasury but the up keep of the cameras is paid for by the councils.

 

Tbh I would rather see more cameras and less speed bumps.

 

Also IIRC cameras can only be installed in spots where there has been something like 2 accidents resulting in death within something like 3 years, so they cant just bung them up anywhere ie thats why when people complain and ask for a camera they put speed bumps in instead.

 

 

I would just rather see more coppers on the road who can also be on the look out for other types of crime happening rather than only speeding.

 

BTW I've been done for speeding a couple of times and I'm not complaining about it one bit, all my own fault.

 

BUT THEY SHOULD BE OUT THERE CATCHING REAL CRIMINALS!!!!

If a road has a 30 limit shouldn't the council maintain the surface so that 30 mph is possible safely?

Get rid of the street furniture and the obstacle course. Result...traffic moves calmly and safely. Do they think we're incapable of driving safely without a sign every 10m or a bollard to avoid:confused1:

As you say dean the journey to the job is more dangerous than doing the work. Perhaps we could do a risk ass and send it to highways. If we high light the dangers of road islands bollards and pot holes they might think twice.
