Interesting, all seems like common sense to me, but as is often said common sense ain't that common.

I like his point about selfishness, I have alway thought that depression and self loathing are very selfish, they are both so inward looking. If people are self obsessed they are going to find faults and those faults will grow in their own eyes.

I almost never look in a mirror (I don't even shave) looking out there is a much better view than looking in, IMO.

There must be hundreds of books like this. I guess they must help someone, but my sneering cynicism has me believe they're just another conduit for cash.

I've read Toxic Stress by Vernon Coleman. He basically says that the modern economy wouldn't function if it was unable to breed feelings of inadequacy in the majority of people by making them believe the need to own "stuff" - houses, cars, etc - or they're not valid adults. This makes everyone compete, enjoy seeing others fail and insincere. So when you're living in an environment where people enjoy being horrible, greedy and selfish, it's no wonder so many feel miserable.

Common sense is just the name you give it Dave, it's a lot more than that, unfortunately some peolple get lost along the way or don't get the right input when they are growing up. Sometimes we know what we have to do but stop ourselves from doing it, we are the result of our experiences good and bad but that is all in the past as he says so you CAN change right now.:001_cool:

I am surprised you and mick managed to get your heads out of the sand to even look at the video clip.:001_rolleyes:

What is selfish about liking yourself?:confused1:

Hey, I even started watching the second one too, for about 3 mins till it bored the pants off me.:sneaky2:

Nothing wrong about liking yourself, I was more referring to the thread title.:001_tongue:

Just seemed to be the same old stuff to me, which ends up with people thinking they can achieve anything and that no one should stand in their way.

Theres nothing wrong with putting others before yourself imo and this seems to be the exact opposite.

Maybe I have his ideas all wrong, its just the way it came across to me thats all.

Anyway back to a bit of.
