Thanks for the replys guys, really pleased with how it's turned out and now its being used it's even better. Taken me years to get round to doing it, wish I'd done it sooner. Next project is floorboards.

No I got someone to put the top through their big sander, does a far better job than by hand and far, far less time Also got him to do 4 joints. We have now got a big old planer/thickneser which Wally is going to install up yard which will make things like this easier to do.
