I've got a britpart 9500i and it's rubbish! Ok it's pulled me out when stuck but using it on windblown ash the other day it's too slow and the clamp that holds the cable on the reel is pants. Had to wind a few turns on then just reverse vehicle to pull timber out. Would change it but only for hydraulic but don't use often enough to rush into changing.

no good for commercial work though IMO. far too fast

 

With the gigglepin extras its fast enough to bump start your truck

 

I would love one, they cost a small fortune though, and to think that alot of challenge landrovers run 3 of them on one truck!

You need to keep a minimum number of wraps of cable/rope on the drum at all times when winching (usually somewhere around 8-10)!. all the clamp/crimp/whatever is for, is to start the rope on the drum NOT to be loaded!

 

towing with a winch is also inadvisable.

 

slow = controlled = safer

suggest you read up on winching and techniques as trying to winch with no turns taken is asking for trouble and trying to reverse pulling on the winch using a defender is asking for a broken propshaft,,,(speaking from experience:blushing:)

 

 

as said above, unless is it a competition...slow =safe..

I didn't say I was pulling on the clamp now did I? It stil had a whole width of turns on it but the clamp wouldn't hold the end enough to maintain purchase. I have done a two day winch course for this type of winch but it Was the winch product that let me down. Anyway, the job got done and thankfully no broken bits on the landy.
